The Fairfax Ballet Company celebrates the 25th anniversary of its first full-length, magical Nutcracker ballet this year. The Fairfax Ballet Company has been staging this beautiful production — a must-see tradition for Northern Virginia families — since 1991.

Make this enchanting story ballet a part of your family’s holiday tradition this Thanksgiving weekend.

The Fairfax Ballet Company stages the “The Nutcracker” Nov. 26-27, 2016 at W.T. Woodson High School, Fairfax, Va. Three show times: Nov. 26, 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Nov. 27, 2:00 pm.

Junior company member Lilah Fortin of Herndon dances the role of Clara. Fairfax Ballet Company members, along with students from the Russell School of Ballet and professional guest artists, join Clara and her Nutcracker prince in this journey through a winter wonderland of dancing snowflakes, twirling candy canes, and an epic battle between heroic toy soldiers and mischievous mice.

“As the only one of the company’s three original Nutcracker choreographers remaining on the project from its inception 25 years ago, what stands out for me is the thrill I have each year watching children who once danced Mother Ginger later dancing the upper Company roles,” said Fairfax Ballet Artistic Director Margaret Virkus. “I have a clear vision of how the process works getting them from early entry level participation to dancing act 2 variations, and it always gives me goosebumps to see it happen before my eyes. It's something akin to seeing your life flash before you and it’s very rewarding.”
