The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (FSO) salutes the next generation of classical musicians with a special performance by string virtuoso, In Mo Yang and the premiere of the 2018 Fairfax County All-Stars Youth Orchestra, featuring outstanding student musicians from across Fairfax County.

Hailed as “one of the new generation’s most talented young string virtuosi”, Korean violinist In Mo Yang, age 22, is the First Prize Winner of the 2014 Concert Artists Guild Competition. Most recently, he earned First Prize at the 54th International Violin Competition “Premio Paganini” – the only First Prize awarded by the competition’s jury in nearly a decade. In Mo Yang will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, playing the unique “Joachim-Ma” Stradivari of 1714, the violin used by Joseph Joachim for the premiere performance of the Brahms Concerto through the generosity of the New England Conservatory.

The program begins with the premiere of the 2018 Fairfax County All-Stars Youth Orchestra in a rare opportunity to perform side-by-side with the FSO. Launched in 2017, this new FSO education initiative brings together the brightest young musicians from across Fairfax County to form the All-Stars Youth Orchestra. These seventeen, talented musicians selected through a competitive audition process receive personalized mentoring and coaching from FSO musicians leading up to the collaborative concert and are Fairfax County's dynamic music ambassadors. The All-Stars Youth Orchestra will perform excerpts from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
