Springfield is the main business center in the southern part of Fairfax County which was originally founded as a station along the Orange and Alexandria Railroad in 1847. The newly opened Springfield Town Center provides ample dining and entertainment opportunities for visitors here.  The Alexandria section of Fairfax County, located south of the City of Alexandria, is home to Fort Belvoir and is one the fastest growing areas of the county.  Historic sites like Woodlawn and Huntley Meadows perfectly illustrate the natural beauty, charm and history of this part of the county that flanks the Potomac River.
