Welcome to Herndon and Reston
Here are some facts about Herndon and Reston to help you better enjoy your Fairfax County vacations. Herndon was named for Commander William Lewis Herndon, American naval explorer and author of Exploration of the Valley of the Amazon. It now displays small town charm with its fantastic restaurants and shops but maintains all the amenities of big city life. Reston was conceived as a planned community by Robert E. Simon. Founded on April 20, 1964 (Simon's 50th birthday) and named for his initials, it was the first modern, post-war planned community in America and is now the most populous place in Fairfax County. Areas within Reston such as Reston Town Center and Lake Anne Plaza provide the perfect gathering places to enjoy seasonal events, a night out on the town, or a productive shopping excursion.
