The citizens of Tuna, Texas, have a lot on their plate! The town judge has been found dead in a compromising position, someone has been poisoning the local pooches, and Charlene still can’t make the cheerleading squad! Two men. Twenty characters. Too funny for words! Greater Tuna is America’s most frequently produced comedy since its debut in 1981. The Lazy Susan is one of the few remaining dinner theatres in the area, and the only one in Fairfax County. A pioneer in "chow business" in the 1970s, the Susan, as she is affectionately known, offers a Texan twist to its famous Pennsylvania-Dutch Buffet to capture the spirit of the production. The price for both dinner and show beats the cost of most theater tickets alone!

She is the reason why women want to sing.”

The magnificently indefinable Asylum Street Spankers stand as one of America's most distinctive live groups. With an all-acoustic mix of genres hailed by Rolling Stone as "inspired, lunatic brilliance," what other band can boast of appearances on both NPR's All Things Considered and The Bob & Tom Show? Mommy Says No!, the group's sixth studio album, features an inspired approach to childhood that one pundit likened to "Dan Hicks meets Dan Zanes." In the best tradition of classic Warner Bros. cartoons, the album is full of the sort of inside joke that will appeal to the Spankers' decidedly adult fans, even while the disc's sounds and themes catch the ears of children. http://yellowdogrecords.com/spankers/mommy_says_no.html

The magnificently indefinable Asylum Street Spankers began in 1994 during a booze and hallucinogen-fueled party at the Dabbs Hotel in Llano, Texas. There Christina Marrs met Wammo. During a night spent singing and playing along the banks of the Llano River they discovered a shared love for early 20th century music. Upon returning to Austin they gathered a few like-minded pals and began playing free shows at clubs and busking around town. http://www.asylumstreetspankers.com/home/home.html

The mysterious music from Gustav Holst’s The Planets is complemented by beautiful HD images from NASA. You’ll be mesmerized by the sights from deep space and the ethereal sounds of the National Symphony Orchestra. Gustav Holst based his most-recognized composition on his own fascination with astrological and supernatural symbols. Incorporating Roman mythology and symbolism into our solar system, Holst relates mankind to the infinite world beyond. Premiering in 1920, The Planets was composed before Pluto was discovered in 1930. Other composers penned a Pluto movement throughout the decades, but after its planetary status was removed in 2006, Holst’s original work became, once again, the complete work for our solar system. Giant screens in-house and on the lawn!

You’ll be both shaken and stirred by the powerful theme songs from classic James Bond films like Goldfinger, Casino Royale, Dr. No, and others. Film composer and conductor Carl Davis leads the NSO through an impressive array of musical selections from the James Bond films from 1962’s Dr. No through 2006’s Casino Royale. When a new Bond movie is announced, the first question in fans’ minds is “Who’s playing Bond?” The next question is “Who’s writing the new theme song?” A list of past performers of these iconic power ballads reads like a Who’s Who of popular music: Paul McCartney, Nancy Sinatra, Carly Simon, and the White Stripes have all taken their turn with 007.

That “wascally wabbit” returns for two fabulous nights of film and music! The NSO provides live accompaniment as everyone’s favorite bunny brings new cartoons and music to life on large screens in-house and on the lawn. Warner Bros.’ Bugs Bunny On Broadway reinvented a new genre of symphony concerts with its premiere in 1990 and is celebrating its 20th anniversary with this newly created concert sequel. Among the timeless cartoons shown are “The Rabbit of Seville” (1950) and “What’s Opera, Doc?” (1957), as well as cartoons set to the overtures to William Tell and Die Fledermaus. A number of new cartoons from the Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes vaults will be added, including the debut of Tweety Bird and Sylvester into the concert with “Tweet and Lovely,” the misguided romantic musings of Pepe Le Pew in “A Scent of The Matterhorn,” and the concert debut of one of Bugs Bunny’s and Daffy Duck’s most celebrated face-offs in “Ali Baba Bunny!”

MOJO is an upcoming band from Centreville, VA that combines reggae, rock, hip hop, and funk to create a sound that cannot be categorized! Passafire developed their sizable fanbase by logging miles all over the US (particularly, in the southeast), which attracted the established booking agent, Monterey International who has taken the band to the next level of touring. Passafire has performed with a variety of major acts including The Wailers, Van Halen, Israel Vibrations, 311, Toots and the Maytals, Los Lonely Boys, Bares Hammond, John Brown's Body, Matisyahu, the Aggrolites and Dub Trio. The band lives on the road, playing live throughout the year. Singer, Ted Bowne doesn't mind the grueling schedule and adds, "Touring is the best way to keep the buzz about the band going. What keeps it fun and exciting is the people we meet and places we get to see. We are in a new city every day so there's always something to go see or do. If we didn't tour constantly, we wouldn't be doing as well as we are. That's a fact." http://www.myspace.com/passafire http://www.myspace.com/mojomusicva http://www.passafiretheband.com/

Come enjoy the music of local band, "JunkFood" as they rock out in the Workhouse Performance Tent on August 8! Voted "BEST LOCAL BAND" - 2008 "Best Of DC" in the Washington City Paper Do you remember when rock and roll was fun? "JunkFood" certainly does, serving up big, unapologetic rock tunes with loud guitars and sing-along hooks so huge you could hang a side of beef on them. "JunkFood" is made up of Bart Harris, Paul Schauer, Joe Murray and Jeff Essex. The group regularly performs for a broad range of fans in a variety of venues up and down the East Coast. From family-friendly festival crowds, to summer beach vacationers, to rowdy college bars, they have entertained them all. Although they are primarily known for their original music, "JunkFood" is not afraid to play your favorite covers from the 80's to today. As their many fans will attest, "JunkFood" subscribes to the old school tradition that no matter how much you enjoy the CD, you've really got to experience the band live to fully appreciate their talent. All the members are road-tested and experienced live performers, having collectively shared the stage with the likes of: "Dave Matthews Band", "STYX", "LIVE", "Fuel", "Vertical Horizon", "Plain White T's", "The Fray", "Collective Soul", "Joan Jett", "Pat Mcgee Band", "Everclear", "Toad The Wet Sprocket", "Jimmy Buffet", "The Presidents Of The USA", "Smash Mouth", "Sugar Ray" , "Jimmie's Chicken Shack" and more! "JunkFood is a band with no illusions about itself. The music the Fairfax foursome makes has little nutritional value, but it sure is delicious..." - C. Woodrow Irvin, The Washington Post TICKETS: Online: $8 (members)/$10 (non-members) At the Door: $10 (members)/$12 (non-members)

Originally a minor-league baseball player, George Thorogood saw John Paul Hammond in concert and decided to become a rock star. His major label debut in 1982, Bad to the Bone, was the first of many albums to go gold. Only six years after his debut album, Who’s Been Talkin’ (1980), Robert Cray won his first Grammy for Showdown, released by Mercury, for Best Traditional Blues Album/Recording. His latest release, This Time, was released in 2009.

The theme of Hug Trees is for kids to get outside and enjoy nature with a nod to Freund's new home Venice Beach. Whether gathering sea shells, walking the dog or hugging a tree, Freund urges kids to get outside and keep it moving. To help spread the word, the NY-raised singer rounded together a bevy of great musicians and produced the project with Steve McCormick at his studio in Mar Vista, California. The album features instruments ranging from ukulele and mandolin to stand up bass and slide guitar. Michael Jerome (Richard Thompson) and Richie Hayward (Little Feet) share drum duties, Eric Heywood (Ray Lamontagne) plays pedal steel and even a member of Canned Heat, Stanley "the Baron" Behrens plays saxophone. Guest singers on Hug Trees include the ever-amazing Victoria Williams who adds her beautiful voice and childlike playfulness to "Seashells". Rising star Brett Dennen pulls double duty by penning and singing on the rowdy "Party in the Yard". The lovely and talented Abra Moore brightens up "Apple From The Tree." "I hope people enjoy the album as much as we enjoyed making it," says Freund. "Who knows, I might have found a day job I love after all these years." http://www.hugtrees.org/Hug_Trees/Home.html http://www.myspace.com/hugtreesmusic http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hug-Trees-Tom-Freund-Friends/184618585626

Beginning February 13, Historic Mount Vernon's F.M. Kirby Gallery in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum hosts a special new exhibition, Bringing Them Home: 150 Years of Restoring the Washington Collection. Organized in honor of the sesquicentennial of the opening of Mount Vernon to the public in 1860, Bringing Them Home celebrates the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association's remarkable 150-year pursuit of original Washington artifacts. These recently returned items-which include examples of fine and decorative arts, books, and manuscripts-enrich our understanding of George and Martha Washington's daily lives at Mount Vernon. Most items are being publicly exhibited for the first time, and many have not been at Mount Vernon since the Washingtons lived here. Bringing Them Home tells the incredible tale of how objects have returned-and continue to return-to Mount Vernon

This program offers a unique blend of art projects and activities while providing quality arts education for passionate young artists. Kids are encouraged to explore and experiment within our open studio environment. Everyone is given the freedom to seek out their own artistic interests and work at their own pace, while being guided along by our staff of professional artists and teachers. Multiple projects will be introduced daily, including learning how to paint and draw from photographs, sculpting with plaster and clay, creating your own cartoon characters, jewelry making, mosaics, mask building, and much more. Through an exploration of techniques, materials, and approaches, children will develop their artistic talents, build their imagination, and develop their own artistic voice. Every Friday is "Art Show Day", giving kids the chance to put together an exhibit using some of the artwork they made throughout the week! Each week we will have a visiting guest artist that will do a demonstration relating to their own work. In addition to all the fantastic art, kids also get the chance to participate in outdoor and indoor recreational activities, play fun games, and enjoy making new friendships with other young artists! All Instructors are professional artists and teachers. Adam Lister is the head instructor for each session throughout the summer. Adam received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Art in 2003. He is the director of the Adam Lister Gallery in Fairfax, VA. The Virginia Steelers was establish in 2009 in Herndon Virginia with the goal of giving athletes the opportunity to play minor league football with a professionally run organization.  We believe that the Northern Virginia area has plenty of talent to build a successful team as the area has produced professional athletes like Chris Warren (Seattle Seahawks), Ratcliff Thomas (New England Patriots) and most recently, Westfield's  Eddie Royal (Denver Broncos) just to name a few.  We believe that the area would have produced more professional athletes if players had a second chance to pursue their dreams after high school or College.  We Believe the Virginia Steelers can provide that second chance by giving players the opportunity to improve their skills while in transition from High School to College or from College to other professional leagues.  We would like the Virginia Steelers to serve as a transitioning point for athletes trying to get to the next level.  One of our goals is to establish relationships with pro agents, professional leagues like the Canadian Football league and Division I Universities to try and help players get to the next level.  If you categorize yourself as one of these individuals or just want a chance to compete at the minor league level then the Virginia Steelers is the organization for you.

I am anxious to say this, in that I do not like disappointing anyone. But I do need to get this off my chest. The new music that is set to come out this July 2010, under the name Lydia, is going to be the last recordings ever put out by the band. We are very grateful to have been able to put out as much music as we have and to reach so many people. I assure you this is not something I've decided over a few months, but more so in the past year. This has been something I've been thinking about for quite some time now and it's just the right place and time for me to move on to other things and projects. I know Steve and myself have really enjoyed performing for all the people that have come out to a show over the last several years. And I can't even begin to explain all the amazing people I've met while being a gypsy traveling around the country, unbelievable. This decision has nothing at ALL to do with a lack of output from the band. I can honestly say the new Lydia material coming out in July is the best music I've ever had the opportunity and privilege to release. This release IS the best music the band has or will ever put out. http://www.myspace.com/lydia

The awareness of audience in Atomic Tom's new sound is fitting for a band that has taken so comfortably to the demands of touring. Though they call New York City home, Atomic Tom consider themselves a traveling act. "We like to think of ourselves as modern day rogue gypsies, " jokes White, "The stage is our home but it's constantly changing. We leave everything on each stage as if it were our first and last." For now, the future of Atomic Tom looks and sounds exceedingly promising. With songs already making their way on to shows like "The Hills" and their new album garnering strong buzz through out the industry, it would be easy to understand if Atomic Tom went Hollywood on us. Thankfully, AT is that rare glimpse of honest talent in a musical world overrun with too many ‘somebodies.' "We know who we are," explains White, "and because of that, our sound may change as we grow as a band, but we'll always inherently be the same people. Four guys, four instruments, and one evolving sound." Listen to the evolution of Atomic Tom when their new album arrives early 2010. http://www.myspace.com/atomictom

Over the past three years Mick Lynch and Kevin May of pop/folk act The Guggenheim Grotto have touched U.S. and U.K. audiences in a way the duo couldn't have imagined. From setting out as Dublin songwriter circuit regulars alongside artists like Damien Rice and Glen Hansard, to building a devoted cult following in the U.S. with warm embraces from media and competitive iTunes charting, the band has captivated audiences and tastemakers on both sides of the pond. TGG now returns with its sophomore record, Happy The Man, which boasts the band's signature mix of timeless pop, folk and soaring melodies, but offers a greater maturity and a higher sense of self-consciousness. "We have naturally become more certain of what we are as a band and what we were capable of," said primary songwriter Kevin May. "With this album I made a conscious effort of working ideas, thoughts and musings on self-awareness and enlightenment into the songs." http://www.guggenheimgrotto.com/ http://www.myspace.com/guggenheimgrotto http://www.myspace.com/toddcarey http://www.myspace.com/josiahleming

Catchy melodies and well-constructed music underpin the comedy, and in live performance their harmonies draw comparisons to the Everly Brothers, while their stage presence evokes the Barenaked Ladies. They will do nearly anything to win the hearts and minds of their audiences, and often throw Twinkies, Moon Pies and/or other snack cakes into the crowd to help seal the deal. Paul and Storm's music is often heard on the "Bob and Tom" syndicated morning radio show, and has been heard on "The Drew Carey Show", Comedy Central, XM Satellite Radio's "Dr. Demento" show. www.jamminjava.com

Entering the year 2009 with over 15 original songs to their name, The OK Corral has begun to play bigger and bigger shows. Playing to another sold out crowd at Jammin' Java in January really motivated the band to keep what they had going. The band has since shared the stage with various local and regional acts including one of Purevolume.com's top unsigned bands of 2008, Conditions of Richmond, VA, and recent Virgin Records signee, My Favorite Highway. The band has gained some national attention as they have been featured as a band of the week in AbsolutePunk.net's self-promotion spotlight drawing comparisons with the likes of Manchester Orchestra, The Format, and Steven Kellogg and the Sixers. The OK Corral is currently looking to bring their music to your ears. With their catchy hooks, mature songwriting, and their outright eagerness to simply have a good time with everyone who is a part of their live music experience, they hope to be playing in a city near you in the near future! http://www.myspace.com/theokcorralmusic

Shannon McNally got her first guitar and JJ Cale album at the age of 12 and never looked back. Combined with the classic rock she grew up listening to - The Allman Brothers, Dr. John and Hendrix - it is the musical center of gravity she brought to her 2002 Capitol Records debut Jukebox Sparrow, gaining notice from Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Leno and Letterman. This decidedly rare approach for a woman drew the same accolades for indie-based Geronimo, helmed by Charlie Sexton. Now, on the self-produced Coldwater, McNally leads her Mississippi-based band, Hot Sauce through the juncture where country and soul music meet - made all the more powerful by the keys of the late, great Jim Dickinson (one of his last recordings.) http://www.shannonmcnally.com/ http://www.myspace.com/ShannonMcNally

Beyond all the superlatives, The Washington Post may have best described Deanna Bogart with three words: Luster, Sophistication, and Soul. This is a one-of-a-kind artist, whose music veers from the depths of the blues to the playful heights of swing, from the subtleties of jazz to the hard-won grit of soul. She brings to her music everything it means to be a woman-everything it means to be human-and delivers it to every line of music played, every phrase of lyrics written and sung, until the pure truth of her sound and message pierces the heart of her audience. Once you hear her-once you feel her-you will never be quite the same. The Deanna Bogart Band includes Mike Aubin on drums, Scott Ambush on bass, Dan Leonard on Guitar. http://www.deannabogart.com/
