Singer-songwriter Todd Wright spent the early part of this century with his band GetawayCar who's song "Superstar" was the soundtrack for the 2003 Pontiac Vibe. He spent most of 2003 with Lucy promoting her debut album "While You Can" in the US, Japan and New Zealand. From 2004-2006 Todd was the touring keyboardist/guitarist with the Pat McGee Band in support of their Warner Brothers release "Save Me." In addition to these artists Todd has been a fill in guitarist for Sony/Or artist Adam Richman and Better Than Ezra. In late 2006 Wright left the touring world to join forces with songwriter Scott Simons. Their instant chemistry as a writing team produced a batch of songs that got them signed to World's End Management within months of their first collaboration. In 2008 Wright signed to Warner Chappell music publishing and has written songs with artists on Verve, Epitaph, Atlantic and Motown/Universal. http://orangepopsongs.com/ http://www.myspace.com/orangepopsongs

On March 13th, the FSO will present a local premiere, Avner Dorman's Piano Concerto, composed for and played by pianist Alon Goldstein, an FSO audience favorite. The percussive nature of Dorman's composition creates its own atmosphere, which is complemented by the Borodin piece, which draws from the composer's Asian heritage. Both pieces are enhanced by hearing them in combination with the Sibelius. "Alon Goldstein, a young pianist with technique to spare, joined the FSO for Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3...Goldstein was particularly impressive in the first movement's lyrical sections and expansive parts of the following theme and variations. The finale was filled with fireworks and fine rapport." -The Washington Post BORODIN: In the Steppes of Central Asia DORMAN: Piano Concerto *East Coast Premier* Alon Goldstein, piano SIBELIUS: The Lemminkäinen Legends

Can the members of Girlyman read each other's minds? Sometimes it seems so. Onstage they often finish one another's sentences or burst into improvised three-part ditties so tight they seem rehearsed. Truth is, the Atlanta-based trio has had years to develop this rapport. Doris Muramatsu and Tylan Greenstein became best friends in second grade. The two met Nate Borofsky in college at a talent show, and since then they've been creating their own unique language of three-part harmony. Informed by 60s vocal groups like Simon & Garfunkel and The Mamas and the Papas, and infused with years of classical and jazz training, Girlyman's songs are a dance of melody and suspensions - an irresistible blend of acoustic, Americana, and rock The Village Voice calls "really good, really unexpected, and really different." http://www.girlyman.com/ http://www.girlyman.com/store.php?link=themusic

The Workhouse will welcome internationally acclaimed ceramic artist Mitch Lyons. Lyons' clay monoprints can be found in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Woodmere Museum, American University and the University of Delaware. Lyons art work will be on exhibition in Gallery W-16 March 19-April 25. An opening reception will be held March 19, from 7-9pm. Lyons will also be holding ceramic workshops “Mind over Matter-Printing with Colored Clay,” March 19-21. Described as “powerful, dynamic and unique” by Time Out Chicago, this energetic ensemble combines athletic bodies and contemporary costumes with explosive Taiko drumming and innovative choreography for an electrifying theater experience. Though their art form is often thought of as male-dominated, TAO creates a unique allure with both male and female performers, all having undergone years of rigorous training in the ancient art of Japanese drumming to reach the highest level of virtuosity. By drawing on backgrounds as diverse as rock musicians, gymnasts, and composers, each member brings their own special flair, resulting in a young and vibrant interpretation of this traditional art form. “Extraordinarily talented…incomparable muscular zeal.” (Chicago Tribune)

Nearly a decade ago budding singer/songwriter Keith Center approached composition major Jeremy Rodgers in their college's performing arts building about forming a band. Rodgers, whose passion for music was evident from the bands he was already in, quickly responded with a resounding no. Yet after hearing a sampling of Center's take on folk rock, Rodgers joined what was soon to become the dreamscapes project. Rodgers was convinced by Center's dedication or perhaps by the intensity taking cover under the raw acoustics. http://www.thedreamscapesproject.com/ http://www.myspace.com/thedreamscapesproject

In the wide world of American music, certain bands have a way of building an exciting life for themselves away from the glare of national attention. Much of that is because of the relationship the group has with its fans. It usually starts in small clubs or even backyards in their hometown, then spreads to nearby cities, neighboring states and soon across entire regions, until the band finally comes into its own as a national presence. The Benjy Davis Project is poised to take on that presence. They've spent the past seven years building fan strongholds around the U.S., releasing three albums that capture their unique force. http://www.myspace.com/benjydavisprojectla

2008 rang in as the year of bob. For more than a decade, middle school mates Adam Smith and Matt Santoro have sung, strummed, banged and riffed through a plethora of sounds and styles before finally settling on an intense rock feel with edge and energy which has led to hundreds of fans at shows, support from Anheuser-Busch, and an album produced by a legendary rock veteran. After a few years of developing a large D.C. area fan base, the band started spreading its live shows out across multiple states along the mid-eastern seaboard. http://www.bobband.com/ http://www.myspace.com/bobband

Acclaimed for his Tony Award-winning choreography for Broadway’s "The Lion King," Garth Fagan remains one of the great reformers of American dance. For more than 40 years, he has honed his incomparable revelatory technique—a blend of ballet, modern, and Afro-Caribbean movements—with dancers who are unmatched for their individuality, unmannered approach, athleticism, and virtuosity. “The handsome, exotic, completely concentrated dancers move as if they were born speaking Fagan’s language and they love the feel of it in their bodies,” says Vogue. This dazzling company takes the stage at the Center, performing a mixture of classic pieces and contemporary favorites. “A prime example of the versatility and sophistication of concert dance in this new century.” (Los Angeles Times)

Beginning February 13, Historic Mount Vernon's F.M. Kirby Gallery in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum hosts a special new exhibition, Bringing Them Home: 150 Years of Restoring the Washington Collection. Organized in honor of the sesquicentennial of the opening of Mount Vernon to the public in 1860, Bringing Them Home celebrates the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association's remarkable 150-year pursuit of original Washington artifacts. These recently returned items-which include examples of fine and decorative arts, books, and manuscripts-enrich our understanding of George and Martha Washington's daily lives at Mount Vernon. Most items are being publicly exhibited for the first time, and many have not been at Mount Vernon since the Washingtons lived here. Bringing Them Home tells the incredible tale of how objects have returned-and continue to return-to Mount Vernon
