On March 13th, the FSO will present a local premiere, Avner Dorman's Piano Concerto, composed for and played by pianist Alon Goldstein, an FSO audience favorite. The percussive nature of Dorman's composition creates its own atmosphere, which is complemented by the Borodin piece, which draws from the composer's Asian heritage. Both pieces are enhanced by hearing them in combination with the Sibelius. "Alon Goldstein, a young pianist with technique to spare, joined the FSO for Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3...Goldstein was particularly impressive in the first movement's lyrical sections and expansive parts of the following theme and variations. The finale was filled with fireworks and fine rapport." -The Washington Post BORODIN: In the Steppes of Central Asia DORMAN: Piano Concerto *East Coast Premier* Alon Goldstein, piano SIBELIUS: The Lemminkäinen Legends

Can the members of Girlyman read each other's minds? Sometimes it seems so. Onstage they often finish one another's sentences or burst into improvised three-part ditties so tight they seem rehearsed. Truth is, the Atlanta-based trio has had years to develop this rapport. Doris Muramatsu and Tylan Greenstein became best friends in second grade. The two met Nate Borofsky in college at a talent show, and since then they've been creating their own unique language of three-part harmony. Informed by 60s vocal groups like Simon & Garfunkel and The Mamas and the Papas, and infused with years of classical and jazz training, Girlyman's songs are a dance of melody and suspensions - an irresistible blend of acoustic, Americana, and rock The Village Voice calls "really good, really unexpected, and really different." http://www.girlyman.com/ http://www.girlyman.com/store.php?link=themusic

Beginning February 13, Historic Mount Vernon's F.M. Kirby Gallery in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum hosts a special new exhibition, Bringing Them Home: 150 Years of Restoring the Washington Collection. Organized in honor of the sesquicentennial of the opening of Mount Vernon to the public in 1860, Bringing Them Home celebrates the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association's remarkable 150-year pursuit of original Washington artifacts. These recently returned items-which include examples of fine and decorative arts, books, and manuscripts-enrich our understanding of George and Martha Washington's daily lives at Mount Vernon. Most items are being publicly exhibited for the first time, and many have not been at Mount Vernon since the Washingtons lived here. Bringing Them Home tells the incredible tale of how objects have returned-and continue to return-to Mount Vernon
