Meet the 'real' George Washington
Fairfax County is home to America's first and most celebrated President. George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens offers visitors of all ages insight into the life and times of this revolutionary hero. In addition to the historic mansion you’re invited to immerse yourself in our nation's past through interactive galleries and exhibits that showcase milestones in our young democracy’s existence. Also pay your respects at the tomb of George and Martha Washington located on the grounds.

Living museum highlighting Fairfax County's past
This well preserved historic site includes four buildings on 36 acres and offers a wide range of interpretive programs and demonstrations for people of all ages. Guided tours of the mill and miller's house are offered six days a week throughout the year. The on-site 19th century General Store is also open for business where you will find candy, toys, jams, jellies and more.

Acoustic music redefined
Made up of 2 adjacent 18th century barns, The Barns is a gift from Wolf Trap's founder, Catherine Filene Shouse, in 1981. Impressed by the acoustical quality of the wooden barn after attending a concert in one in Maine, she wanted to bring the same informal and acoustical setting to Wolf Trap. The Barns is home to the Wolf Trap Opera Company during the summer months.

A 95-acre flowering oasis
Beauty, conservation, education and discovery flourish throughout the year at this 95 acre complex of large ornamental display gardens and unique native plant collections. Walking trails, lakes, more than twenty varieties of cherry trees, irises, peonies, an extensive shade garden, native wildflowers, gazebos, birds, butterflies, seasonal blooms and foliage create a sanctuary of beauty and nature.

Green Spring Gardens is a "must visit" for everyone in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. It's a year-round gold mine of information and inspiration for the home gardener. It's an outdoor classroom for children and their families to learn about plants and wildlife. It's also a museum, a national historic site that offers glimpses into a long, rich history with colonial origins.
