Museums

While on your vacation in Fairfax County, history museums and historical sites make it possible to learn and relive American history. Other museums, like Virginia art and science museums, let you explore and understand how things work.

While it is true that you're located just across the river from Washington, DC on your Fairfax County vacation, don't assume that the local museum scene consists of just the Smithsonian Museums! In Fairfax County, we have George Washington's Mount Vernon and its Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center, which features 23 galleries and interactive exhibits focused on our founding father's story. And then there's the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, where you can witness the incredible presence of the iconic Space Shuttle Discovery.

Browse our list below of Capital Region museums you can visit on your vacation or trip.
