The festival opening will include a Naturalization Ceremony where America's newest citizens will take the Oath of Allegiance. This has become a tradition at the Multicultural Festival and is a moving and fitting beginning to the day that celebrates our diversity. National Heritage Award Fellows will be presented continuing a feature that was a hit last year. The Fellows are "living national treasures" who make a splendid addition to the event. The Reston Multicultural Festival is hosted by the Lake Anne Plaza and co-sponsored by Reston Association, with partners from a variety of Reston-based organizations and businesses. The Spooktacular was launched over 20 years ago, by members of Great Falls Friends to provide younger children with a central, convenient place in Great Falls to have fun trick or treating. It was because of their initiative that still today we have Great Falls vendors offering candy around the Village Green as well as in the Safeway shopping center at the corner of Georgetown Pike and Walker Road.

Children are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costume, experience the Haunted House, and enjoy trick or treating right in the heart of town.

Families are invited to enjoy autumn-themed games, crafts, and activities at both Huntley Meadows Park and Historic Huntley. Refreshments will be available, and kids can collect prizes at educational stations. At Huntley Meadows Park, families will find educational stations focused on the autumn season and how nature prepares for winter. Other activities include making animal masks and playing games such as pumpkin bowling and musical hay bales. At Historic Huntley, costumed period interpreters will teach visitors about historical agricultural practices. Children will enjoy a puppet show about Huntley manor's history and make a bookmark after story time. Other crafts, games, and refreshments will be available at both locations. Kids collect charms as they visit each activity station, and once they collect them all they earn a bigger prize. Pre-registration isn't necessary, so just show up and have fun!
