During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Dranesville Tavern was a popular stopping place for travelers. It was so popular that in 1865, the Alexandria Gazette described it as “one of the best roadside inns in the State of Virginia.” The tavern, built around 1820, served travelers and drovers taking livestock and farm produce to the Georgetown, Washington D.C., and Alexandria markets. The tradition of excellence and hospitality continues at this beautifully restored National Historic Landmark.
