The Fairfax250 Commission is pleased to welcome three new members whose leadership and expertise will help guide the county’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Debbie Kilpatrick joins the Commission as the representative for the Sully District. A dedicated community leader, Ms. Kilpatrick currently serves as president of the Fairfax County Council of PTAs and sits on the Board of Directors for Celebrate Fairfax. Her deep involvement in county organizations brings valuable insight to the Commission’s outreach and engagement efforts.
Representing the Franconia District is Jennifer Macpherson, whose background in archaeology and public history adds depth to the Commission’s historical mission. In addition to her appointment to Fairfax250, Ms. Macpherson serves as the archaeologist representative on the Fairfax County History Commission, where she contributes to preserving and interpreting the county’s cultural heritage.
Joining them is Kate Steir, the newly appointed representative of Gunston Hall. As Senior Curator and Head of Collections, Ms. Steir oversees the stewardship of George Mason’s historic estate and its artifacts. Her expertise in museum curation and historical interpretation will help connect Fairfax County’s Revolutionary-era legacy to the broader national story.
Together, these new commissioners strengthen the Fairfax250 Commission’s mission to honor the county’s role in the founding of the United States and to engage residents in meaningful reflection and celebration. Their diverse backgrounds and shared commitment to history will help shape inclusive and educational programming throughout the 250th anniversary year.
