Every year on June 14, the nation marks the founding of the United States Army in 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized the first companies of riflemen to serve the new nation. This year, The Army Historical Foundation invites the community to celebrate that legacy in motion. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, participants of all ages and experience levels are invited to take part in the second annual Army Birthday 6.14K Road Race, a unique opportunity to honor the American Soldier while enjoying a meaningful morning of fitness, history, and connection at the National Museum of the United States Army.

A Race with Meaning Behind Every Step

The Army Birthday 6.14K is more than a run—it’s a tribute. Beginning and ending at the National Museum of the United States Army and following the multi-purpose trail along the Fairfax County Parkway, the course brings participants together to celebrate the Army’s birthday in a way that reflects its enduring values of service, strength, and community. Whether you are running competitively, walking with friends, pushing a stroller, or participating virtually from another location, the event offers a welcoming way for supporters of Army history to mark the occasion together.

Honoring History—From 1775 to Today

The Army’s birthday represents more than a milestone on the calendar. It marks the beginning of a legacy of service that continues through every generation of Soldiers who have worn the uniform since the earliest days of the Revolutionary War. Events like the Army Birthday 6.14K help connect today’s communities with that story—bringing people together not only to commemorate the Army’s founding, but also to reflect on the service and sacrifice that shaped the nation. As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of independence, opportunities like this one offer meaningful ways to participate in the national commemoration while supporting the preservation and presentation of Army history.

Celebrate Community, Wellness, and the Museum Experience

Participants in the Army Birthday 6.14K will also enjoy a morning that extends beyond the race itself. Following the run, attendees are invited to take part in a guided stretching and yoga session and to explore the Museum’s galleries—including the special exhibition Call to Arms: The Soldier and the Revolutionary War, which highlights rare artifacts and Soldier stories from across the Revolutionary era. Together, these experiences reflect the Foundation’s broader commitment to connecting history with people in engaging, accessible ways—both inside the Museum and across the community.

A Growing Tradition at the National Museum of the United States Army

Now in its second year, the Army Birthday 6.14K is quickly becoming a meaningful local tradition that brings together families, veterans, runners, history enthusiasts, and supporters of the Foundation’s mission. Specially themed race shirts and commemorative medals—revealed closer to the event—add to the celebratory spirit of the morning and help mark the occasion in a memorable way. Most importantly, participation helps strengthen the Foundation’s ongoing work to preserve the history and legacy of the American Soldier for future generations.
