Holiday Spirit Abounds Throughout Fairfax County This Season
Fairfax County, VA - November 2, 2009 - Visit Fairfax invites friends and family, from far and near, to come celebrate the Season in Fairfax County, Virginia. From festive community celebrations to bustling shopping centers and everything in between, there is so much to do around the County to make those special memories that last a lifetime. But you don't have to take our word for it. We've asked some notable Fairfax residents and business owners to share some of their favorite Fairfax holiday memories with you:
Michael Weiss, the three-time US National Ice Skating Champion, Olympian and graduate of W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, tells us:
Every winter season, I take my wife, two kids, sisters, nieces and nephews to have a holiday skate outdoors at the Reston Town Center. What better way to get into the holiday spirit, than ice skating outdoors? We thaw out with some hot chocolate and dinner, and then catch an early evening movie. I also remember when my son was 7 years old playing hockey games on Saturday mornings. The sun shining on a crisp winter morning, and outdoor hockey...can't think of a better way to spend a holiday season morning.
If you prefer more historic holiday traditions, Mrs. Martha Washington, one of Fairfax County's most prominent residents, shares: Christmastide is my favorite time of year at Mount Vernon. We enjoy song and merriment and neighbors from near and far visiting us to share in our cheer. This year I will be sure to have sufficient chocolate drink prepared for you as well as my famous great cake. And if that was not enough for a special celebration, General Washington recently made arrangements to bring a camel down from Alexandria! We are all so very excited. I do hope you'll come visit us before the mistletoe is gone!
"Merriment" and "cheer" abound in the dining rooms and bars of some of the Capital region's best restaurants, including Chef Geoff Tracy's newest location of Chef Geoff's in Tysons Corner.
The winter season is the perfect time to visit Northern Virginia! There are so many wonderful sights to see and winter activities to enjoy, and after you've spent all day working up an appetite, you'll be delighted to find an amazing variety of dining choices to satisfy you.
With the opening of the new Chef Geoff's Tysons Corner, I'm proud to have joined the many great dining options in Fairfax County. I invite you to sit down with family and friends this winter and enjoy one of our seasonal specials. Cheers!
