Fairfax County, VA - June 10, 2009 - Visit Fairfax , the Official Tourism Organization for Fairfax County, Virginia, recently received awards for last winter's "Shop as the Temperatures Drop" promotion from the Virginia Association of convention & Visitors Bureaus (VA CVB) and the American Marketing Association's (AMA) DC Chapter.

"We are honored to be recognized by these two distinguished organizations for our work on behalfor our tourism partners in Fairfax County," says Visit Fairfax President & CEO Barry Biggar.

The promotion - which ran from November 29 through January 31, 2009 - "froze" the Saturday night reate for guests staying at participating Fairfax County hotels to match the Fahrenheit outdoor temperature recorded at Dulles International Airport at noon on the Saturday of their stay (a minimum two night stay was required). The resulting publicity value gained as a result of media efforts was over $1.2 million.

Visit Fairfax received the VA CVB award for "Best Public Relations Initiative" during the organization's annual conference this past April in Wintergreen, Virginia, in recognition for the PR results earned during the "Shop as the Temperatures Drop" winter promotion. The AMA's 'M Award' followed in May at the DC Chapter's award ceremony at the Marriott Metro Center in the District for best "Integrated Marketing Campaign - On a Shoestring Budget."

A Visit Fairfax vendor, AdZig Logo Promotions, also earned an award for their part in the "Shop as the Temperatures Drop" campaign. The Chesapeake Promotional Products Association (CPPA) recognized AdZig with a 2009 CPPA Peake Award for excellence in a promotional product under $15 for the Galileo Thermometers. Visit Fairfax included the thermometers in the supporting media kits sent to consumer and industry-related press.
