When people hear the word “café,” a local neighborhood coffee shop or a Starbucks may come to mind. And while Fairfax County is home to an incredible array of coffee shop cafes, including some great international ones, several unique, more “niche” cafes have popped up that are worth exploring.

From tea houses and cat cafes to internet and gaming cafes, there are many unique experiences available for visitors.

Here are several unique cafes worth checking out in Fairfax County:

Looking for a late-night spot to chill or a place from which to get your next big idea? Tea-Do offers customers a relaxed atmosphere heavily inspired by Eastern Asian culture. Tea-Do is more than just a fun place to hang out, though, as you’ll find some retro games available to play. While most known for its bubble teas and smoothies, unique snacking options such as Onigiri and Chicken Karaage can also be found on the menu. Make sure to check out any seasonal items offered, as those are typically a hit with customers!

 

iBattle Gaming Center

Founded in 2019, iBattle Gaming Center has become a top destination for gamers to enjoy a night of adventure and thrill. Equipped with the newest and best equipment in PC Gaming, you and your friends will be immersed in the action. iBattle offers dozens of different games. Plus, gamers are free to download and play their own games in this popular internet café. Events and tournaments are held throughout the year, along with LAN and even birthday parties.

 

Patriot Pawsabilities Cat Lounge
📍Fairfax

A book, music, a warm drink, and … cats! What could be better than that? Patriot Pawsabilities can be found at University Mall in Fairfax and was founded by Monique Ryan. With more than 30 cats and kittens available to meet and greet, patrons can lounge, study, and play with these furry friends in a relaxing and safe environment. P2, as the café is lovingly referred to as, also offers additional activities, including crafting classes and movie nights. However, the best part is that if you fall in love with one of the cats, you can adopt them without delay. Tip – while this café does not serve food or drinks, guests are welcome to bring in any food/drinks that have been purchased at the Mall.

 

Green Lizard Cycling
📍Herndon

Considered a community staple, Green Lizard Cycling combines its cycling mission with the features of a coffee shop. Located directly off the Washington & Old Dominion Trail, visitors can order a coffee to refuel after biking or rent a bike and grab a coffee before heading out on their adventure. Green Lizard combines unique coffee beans from Alaska and perfectly filtered water to make a superior cup of coffee. Green Lizard also features several cold brews, freshly baked goods, sandwiches, and soups, all of which are made in-house or within the local community.

 

Soricha Tea & Theater
📍Annandale

Soricha Tea & Theater Cafe - Annandale -OBVFX April Greer

A hidden gem located in Annandale’s Koreatown, Soricha Tea & Theater not only serves up handcrafted Korean teas, but also a cultural theater space to enjoy or learn Korean music. Soricha offers a wide range of drink options, including Milk Tea, Flower Tea, Korean Lattes, and special house-made beverages. Make sure you check the calendar to find a night to visit when a special music or theater event will take place. An upcoming event on January 31, 2026 will celebrate the Lunar New Year.

 

Cafe Montmartre

Located on the quiet waterfront of Lake Anne in Reston, Café Montmartre is a traditional French Café. French cuisine connoisseurs will be delighted with the menu offerings, from French quiches to French sandwiches. On select days, Café Montmartre offers an extensive brunch, making it the perfect place to spend a Sunday morning with the family.

 

Cozy District Café

Cozy District Café is a Fairfax County favorite for its warm and cozy atmosphere. Offering specialty coffees, breakfast all day, specialty sandwiches, and smoothies, you will be able to spend hours in this warm and friendly establishment. The café also offers additional amenities, including board games that you and your friends can play! Tip – this spot is located within an office building with a nondescript entrance.
