Address:9501 Old Burke Lake Road
Burke, VA 22015
Wood was a much-needed commodity during the war, especially for railroad construction and repair. Thousands of acres of woods were cut down in the county to aid the Union cause, much of it cut by former slaves aiding the Union at the risk of being captured and once again enslaved. A siding near here on the Orange & Alexandria Railroad was constructed to facilitate the shipment of the wood to Alexandria.
