Did you know the U.S. Army is a year older than the United States itself?

The oldest and largest military branch in the United States was formed on June 14, 1775, during the early days of the Revolutionary War, when the Continental Army was formed to fight for the freedom that would eventually define America.

This date marks more than just the Army’s founding. It honors the sacrifice of every soldier, from the very beginning to those serving today. As the only official museum to capture, display, and interpret the Army's full scope of history through the eyes of the Soldier, the National Museum of the United States Army in Fairfax County is the perfect place to commemorate this important anniversary.

To mark this historic 250th birthday, the museum is hosting a series of Revolutionary War-themed programs and unveiling a brand-new exhibit that honors the dedication of those who fought for America’s independence. Here's everything you need to know about celebrating the U.S. Army's 250th birthday in 2025 and how it unofficially kicks off the commemoration of America's 250th in 2026.
