Whether you're looking to play a quick 9-hole game or a full 18, Fairfax County offers more than a dozen meticulously designed golf courses catering to various skill levels.
But golf in Fairfax County isn’t confined to just 18 holes. As tradition meets technology, the area has evolved to offer many innovative experiences that go beyond the green. From golf simulators and indoor driving ranges to social clubs and putt-putt, you don’t have to be Scottie Scheffler to achieve the perfect game.
Here's a look at some out-of-the-box golfing experiences in Fairfax County.
Driving Ranges
📍Burke, Oakton, Lorton, Clifton, and Herndon

Voted a Top 50 Public Range in the U.S. by Golf Range Association of America (GRAA), Burke Lake Golf Center’s fully renovated double-decker range is a great option for practicing your swing. With 64 bays (24 of which are heated) and great lighting for night usage, Burke Lake also offers several promotions and tournaments throughout the year.
At Oakmont Course in Oakton, there are 78 lighted stations and 30 covered/heated stations. Plus, don’t miss the range specials, which include a daily Pies and Drives deal (buy a pizza, get one 40-ball bucket for free) and a Friday happy hour special on drinks and rates.
Plus, at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Clifton, you’ll find 36 stations (6 covered) and at Lorton's Laurel Hill Golf Club, you’ll find a 30-station practice range (both grass and mat). At Herndon Centennial Golf Course, you’ll find 14 hitting stations open until dark.
Golf Simulators
📍Annandale, Springfield
Needing to up your golf game but don’t have time to hit the green? Pinecrest Golf Course in Annandale is home to the TrackMan Golf Simulator, a tool that has innovative technology that helps transform the way golfers practice, compete, and socialize. TrackMan offers immersive instruction and in-depth analysis of a golf swing, club head, and ball flight. It also offers a chance to “play” courses from around the world, from Augusta to Dubai. For a fun social experience, bring some friends (or even the kids) to try one of the entertainment-focused game formats and order from the bar and grill for a fun weekend activity. If you want a more traditional range experience, you can also rent one of Pinecrest's indoor golf bays.
In Springfield, The St. James is one of the most comprehensive sports and wellness centers on the East Coast, coming in with 450,000-square-feet of elite training programs and equipment. The Squash & Golf House includes seven golf bays fitted with top-of-the-line simulators that can help improve an array of golfing skills. Guests can also enjoy an in-house putting green, custom fittings from Taylormade, and virtual golf experiences on worldwide courses or fun social games like darts and mini-golf.
Social Lounges with Simulators & Games
📍Reston, Centreville
Reston just welcomed the brand new indoor golf studio, CitySwing, intending to make golf more approachable to all. Each simulator is located within a private rentable suite for up to 10 people, adjacent to a full bar and lounge area in the central lobby. Full access to your own TVs, music, golf clubs, and games. If you’ve never swung a club before, you can sign up for individualized lessons or a free swing analysis or intro to golf session. Note: CitySwing Reston just opened its doors in May. A food menu is now available, but a full bar will be coming soon.
Billing themselves as the “perfect blend of swings, sips, and bites,” No. 1 Golf Lounge in Centreville has over 10,000 square feet of entertainment, including several Golfzon advanced simulators that allow you to experience golf in a variety of playing conditions. The two-level venue offers three sections: driving ranges, private golf bays, and a central bar and lounge area. Better yet, the venue is open late -- until 12am Mon-Thurs and 2am on Fri-Sat. (It closes at 10pm on Sundays.)
Rudy’s Golf & Sports Bar (located in the former space of Kingstowne’s original Topgolf) is a 74-bay driving range equipped with TopTracer Technology. This is the spot to kick back with friends and play entertaining golf games or practice your advanced swings. Also on the property, you’ll find 36 holes of miniature golf and a full-service bar and restaurant.
Putt Putt

How many of you can say you’ve played miniature golf 11 stories in the air? Now you can at Perch Putt, Capital One Center’s unique 18-hole course in Tysons. Surrounded by whimsical vintage vehicles-turned-food trucks and one of Northern Virginia’s only Tiki bars, you can enjoy sunset aerial views of Tysons while getting a little competitive with your putt-putt swing.
Fairfax County is also home to at least 10 different miniature golf courses, some located at the traditional courses around the county and some located in indoor spaces, such as Monster Mini Golf in Chantilly and Shadowland Laser Adventure Center’s The Dark Tower course in Springfield.
