On January 20, 2025, our nation will inaugurate the 47th President of the United States. The 2025 Inaugural Ceremony will start with the Swearing-In Ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, where the Vice President and President will take their Oaths of Office. Following the oath, the President will deliver his Inaugural Address. This historic event is open to the public, with free tickets available. The Inaugural Parade will take place soon after.

See George Washington’s Inaugural Suit Coat

For a limited time, take an in-person look at George Washington’s suit coat that he wore during his first inauguration on April 30, 1789 at the Federal Hall in New York City. Curators will be there on January 18 and 19 to share additional details regarding this statement of national identity. Dive deeper as you tour the museum to glimpse George Washington's sword, presidential chair, and more. During Curator Chats, get more insight into these rare objects from the people who know them best, the curators. 

*Due to its fragility, the inaugural coat is rarely on public display, so make sure to visit Mount Vernon from January 17 through February 3.

Even though the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC will be closed to the public during the Presidential Inauguration, its sister site in Fairfax County - the National Air and Space Museum Steven F.
