One trail to definitely take a look at is the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD), which spans 45 miles from Arlington, VA all the way through Fairfax County and a bit further west. While the trail sits on the old railroad tracks of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, part of the trail has been structured in gravel, perfect for horseback. This park is known as the "skinniest park in Virginia," so it may be a good start to the many scenic views Northern Virginia has to offer.
